Grant Description
Award to a USA teacher in eligible regions to recognize significant contributions to education. The award program honors an individual teacher with a $2,000 monetary prize and a one-year membership to a professional association. In addition, the recipient's school district receives $1,000 to purchase instructional materials and school supplies to enhance his or her classroom and cover costs related to released time. Eligible teachers reside in rural areas of the United States.

The National Rural Education Association presents the Annual College Board Rural Teacher of the Year Award to a deserving teacher. The College Board Rural Teacher of the Year Award is sponsored and funded by the College Board.

Additional Eligibility Criteria
The competition for the College Board Rural Teacher of the Year is open to all rural teachers.

Pre-Application Information
The deadline is June 30th, 2025.

Candidates for the award who an NREA State Affiliate Organization nominates shall automatically be the candidate from their home state. Without an NREA State Affiliate candidate, any teacher from that state may be a candidate and shall be considered a state semi-finalist. The College Board Rural Teacher of the Year Selection Committee will select a state candidate from the semi-finalists. Only state candidates will be considered for the College Board NREA Rural Teacher of the Year Award.

Presentation of the College Board Rural Teacher of the Year Award will be made at the Annual National Forum to Advance Rural Education. The College Board Rural Teacher of the Year will make an acceptance speech and should be prepared to present a one-hour breakout session on an appropriate topic related to teaching in the setting.

The recipient's travel, lodging, and registration costs for attending the Annual NREA Convention will be paid by the NREA.

Term of Contract
The Rural Teacher of the Year will serve as an Ambassador for Education throughout the United States of America the following year.
