Grant Description
Grants to USA and territories nonprofit organizations and government agencies to assess programs and activities related to health and nutrition. Applicants must contact program staff prior to applying. Funding is intended to increase the consumption of fruits and vegetables by providing incentives at the point of purchase among income-eligible consumers participating in the USDA Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

The GusNIP Nutrition Incentive Program presents the opportunity to bring together stakeholders from various parts of the food and healthcare systems to foster an understanding of how they might improve the health and nutrition status of participating households. NIFA requests applications for the GusNIP Nutrition Incentive Program from all 50 States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and the United States Virgin Islands, in addition to income-eligible consumers participating in the USDA Nutrition Assistance Program (NAP) in Puerto Rico, American Samoa, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands.

For additional program requirements, see: https://www.nifa.usda.gov/sites/default/files/2023-02/FY23-GusNIP-RFA-508.pdf#page=8

NIFA encourages pursuing these priorities through the application of Traditional Ecological Knowledge in collaboration and consultation with Tribal Nations and Indigenous Peoples if consistent with the above goals and priorities. Furthermore, NIFA also encourages applicants to highlight proposed project plans that emphasize food and nutrition security, nutritional quality, environmental stewardship (e.g., food loss and waste, climate), culturally sensitive food and/or food practices, and economic and social equity.

Additionally, NIFA encourages projects that address the following:

  1. Serve underrepresented communities, such as tribal communities, communities of color, LGBTQ+ communities, individuals with disabilities, Veterans, rural and remote communities, insular areas, or communities with residents predominantly living under the Federal poverty line and/or
  2.
