Grant Description

Grants of up to $10,000 to USA Jewish day schools, Jewish community centers, Hebrew high school programs, and congregational school programs for projects to connect local youth and senior citizens. The purpose of the program is to help young people learn from their elders and give senior citizens a chance to forge new connections.

To create a supportive community in which educators assist each other in successful implementation of the program, all Better Together program leaders participate in online webinars and sharing opportunities with other participating programs.

It is highly recommended that over the course of the year each program implements a project focused on participant biographies (e.g. cooking, technology, documentary interviews, genealogy, art, etc.) to frame the interactions between students and seniors.

Additional Eligibility Criteria

The following middle school, high school, and college programs are eligible to apply:
- Jewish day schools
- Congregational school programs
- Hebrew high school programs
- Youth group programs
- JCCs

This is a national grant. If you are a teen-facing organization in the United States, and you meet all other listed requirements, you are eligible to apply.

Estimated Size of Grant

The maximum grant is $10,000 per year for two years. Programs may opt-in for another two years of funding of $5,000 per year toward a total yearly budget of at least $10,000.

Term of Contract

The goal is that by year five, schools and youth groups will incorporate Better Together within their own annual budgets.
