Request a Grant Writer

Grants of up to $10,000 to Maine nonprofit organizations, government and tribal agencies, and schools to provide services to the elderly population. Eligible expenses include new, expanding, or ongoing transportation and delivery projects, and general support for ongoing staff and operational needs. To receive a grant, an organization or project must provide transportation and/or delivery services to primarily older community members over 60.

Priority will be given to projects and organizations that:

  • Use volunteers and have community partners
  • Provide additional information and connections to assist riders with meeting other needs that exist beyond transportation
  • Meet gaps in services or provide service where there is none or not enough currently
  • Address inequities and engage a diverse range of older residents
  • Creatively use existing resources
  • Are clearly laid out and ready to implement.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Who is eligible to apply:
- Nonprofit, charitable organizations tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and also classified as an organization described in sections 509(a)(1) or 509(a)(2)
- Municipalities
- Public schools
- Public agencies working for the State of Maine
- Indian tribal governments (or political subdivisions) recognized by the Department of the Interior
- Groups without any tax status may apply with a fiscal sponsor that is an eligible organization as described above.

Funds may not be used for:
- Vehicles
- Expenses already incurred
- Regranting to a secondary grantee through a competitive process
- Political campaigns
- Lobbying in the form of calls to action on a specific vote
- Religious activities, including, but not limited to, religious services, promotion of religious beliefs, or activities that are restricted to church or religious group membership.
