Grants of up to $5,000 to New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and schools to meet the urgent needs of vulnerable populations resulting from the COVID-19/Coronavirus crisis. Funding is intended to support nonprofits as they assist underprivileged residents and communities. Funded projects must serve the regions of Capital, Manchester, Lakes, Nashua, Monadnock, Piscataqua, Upper Valley, and North Country.

The Foundation is focusing its resources on supporting vulnerable communities and the nonprofits that serve them. Nonprofits should serve vulnerable community members, including but not limited to:

  • Families and elders with low income
  • People with disabilities
  • Homeless and housing-insecure
  • Food insecure
  • Immigrants, refugees, and those with limited English proficiency
  • Child care for children from low-income families
  • Racial minorities affected by viral racism, hate crimes and bias resulting from COVID 19

Applications could be related, but not limited to:

  • Maintaining staffing
  • Moving to remote work environments
  • Implementing procedures for the safety of staff
  • Supporting volunteers and clients (in places where services must continue to be delivered during the pandemic)
  • Increased expenses for supplies or services due to expected increase in clients
  • The loss of fundraising or ticket sale receipts
  • Cash flow/budgetary implications related to strains on the economy

Grant amount: Up to $5,000

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must be recognized as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Organizations that do not have public charity status may apply for grants if another public charity acts as a fiscal sponsor.

In addition, NH Charitable Foundation will make a grant through this program to:
- Municipalities, only for support of programs to support vulnerable populations (see “What We Are Looking For”, below)
- Public Schools for access to food for students
- Religious Organizations, only for services that are non-discriminatory, non-sectarian and benefit the larger community

The Foundation will not fund:
- County or State Government
- Private Schools
- Hospitals
- Colleges and Universities
- Organizations exclusively focused on substance use disorder prevention, treatment or recovery support services.

Organizations that receive an express grant may apply for a multiyear unrestricted community grant later this year. Organizations that received a multiyear unrestricted community grant in 2018 or 2019 may not apply for an express grant.

Application deadline is Friday, May 29, 2020, 5:00 pm Eastern time.

The deadline is subject to change (possibly moved later) as the Foundation continually assesses the evolving situation.

Applicants will receive a funding decision within two weeks of grant submission.
