Nuckolls Fund for Lighting Education

Deadline Date:

10/31/19

Description:

Request a Grant Writer

Grant of up to $20,000 to a USA, Canada, or Mexico IHE educator to expand a lighting program at a North American institution. The funding source encourages proposals for courses that cross departmental lines and involve students and faculty from more than one discipline.

In preparing the proposal, carefully consider and address the following:

  • The proposal is for the expansion of an existing lighting program. The submitting institution must currently offer at least one course dedicated to lighting. This grant is not intended for initiating lighting instruction at schools where no such course exists or in funding “once-only” projects that will not continue beyond the grant period.
  • The proposal must document how the lighting course will enhance the existing lighting instruction.
  • It is suggested that the applicant seek endorsement of and assistance for the institution’s lighting education program from the nearest Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) section, from practicing lighting professionals in the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) and/or from the Designers Lighting Forum (DLF), and from local lighting companies whenever available.
  • Although lighting instruction is generally housed in one academic discipline, lighting itself is multidisciplinary. Thus, proposals that involve faculty and students from more than one discipline are encouraged.
  • Endorsement of the proposal by at least two academic officials (chair, director, dean, and so forth) of the institution is required. Such endorsement should indicate how the proposed activity will be integrated into existing programs and continued after the grant period ends.

Equipment essential to the proposal may be purchased, with a limit of $5,000.
