Grants and in-kind support to USA, Canada, and International nonprofit and local organizations that are working to improve the quality of life and support equal opportunities for people with hearing impairments. Applicants are required to submit an LOI prior to a full grant application. Funding is intended for sustainable projects that concentrate on the four following areas: children, professional training, parents and families, and the prevention of hearing loss.

The Foundation strives to develop sustainable programs in low- and middle-income countries, with scaling potential for replication in other regions within the country to serve as models for audiological care. To achieve this aim, the Foundation funds and collaborates with local aid organizations. The Foundation's guiding principles are summarized in the Hearing Health Value Chain.

Institutional readiness to enable sustainable hearing health care:

  • Capacity Building: Expertise, training, equipment, infrastructure, and processes

The Foundation supports programs and initiatives that: 

  • Work towards improving hearing healthcare for children in underserved communities.
  • Have a holistic program framework and a strong emphasis on building local capacity
  • Use evidence-based ways to achieve specified outcomes in hearing health and show willingness and capacities to participate in monitoring and evaluation
  • Follow an inclusive approach

Program partners are supported in the following manner:

  • All work is led by program partners
  • The Foundation provides long-term funding and technological support in the form of hearing technology and diagnostic equipment
  • The Foundation augments funding with professional expertise and strategic consultancy support

Besides financial and technical support, the HTWF also offers professional expertise in the form of volunteering work by employees from Sonova Group for building up local capacity or to support the local team to fill a short-term capacity gap. This can be done through teaching, consulting, and other onsite support through experts. Term of Contract:

The Foundation works with project partners over several years to establish sustainable care.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The Foundation partners with:
- Locally-rooted organizations in low- to middle-income countries
- Professional, legally registered non-profit organizations including NGOs, community groups, hospitals and actors within the private sector, preferably working with local governments and in networks with other organizations
- Financially stable and transparent partners, working towards a self-reliant hearing health care model

The Foundation does not support:
- Basic funding of organizations or foundations
- Campaigns, projects or organizations with significant political exposure
- Fly-in fly-out projects without local anchoring
- Individual persons with hearing loss
- Projects in countries with severe safety or security risks

Pre-Application Information:

- The initial application” must be submitted until September 30th, 2021, 23:59 CET.
- The “Full application” must be submitted by November 1st, 2021, 23:59 CET.

Application process:
Step 1 – Short application to participate
You may submit the complete initial information and documents via the link below until 30 September. Please note that applications submitted after the deadline cannot be considered.

Step 2 – Comprehensive funding application
- All submitted documents are carefully reviewed and applicants are informed mid-October as to whether their application has been shortlisted.
- In the event of a positive evaluation, applicants will e asked to submit further detailed project information.
- The final decision on which projects will be funded in the coming financial year will be made in March at the Foundation Board meeting.
- If your project is selected, cooperation with the Foundation will start in April 2022.
